We are blessed to have so much amazing recreation close to home. Kingfield is the entrance to the mountains with endless opportunities for exploration into the wild northland.

  • The Town of Carrabassett Valley, the Carrabassett Region Chapter of the New England Mountain Bike Association (CRNEMBA), Maine Huts and Trails, and Sugarloaf have collectively built nearly 100 miles of trails to ride including over twenty miles of newly constructed purpose-built single-track for all abilities. Freeman Ridge Bike Park is less than 2 miles from Terrapin.

  • The Narrow Gauge Pathway is a rail trail which hugs the east bank of the scenic Carrabassett River. Visitors may access the trail at three different trailheads and enjoy this non-motorized trail in all seasons. The trail has a gentle grade that increases upstream from the Carrabassett Valley Town Office. In the winter the trails are groomed for both classic and skate style cross-country skiing.

  • Sugarloaf Ski Resort is only miles away and has some of the best terrain on the east coast. They offer back country and cat skiing as well as lots of beginner terrain. Sugarloaf Outdoor Center offers 90 Kilometers (56 miles) of groomed cross country ski trails as well as ice skating and snowshoeing. Saddleback is only 1 hour away and is expected to reopen this year.

  • Flagstaff Lake, at nearly 30 miles long, wraps around the base of the Bigelow Range. It is a great place to paddle or swim and offers amazing mountain views.

  • The Dead River and Kennebec River meet at the Forks, creating one of the best whitewater areas in the country. Its offers everything from class V rapids to peaceful family floats. There are many guide services available.

  • The Appalachian trail passes near Kingfield and offers many opportunities for hiking.

  • The Carrabassett River flows right through town.
